Meeting Dates/Times:

***All Team Meetings have been suspended indefinitely***

Please join us at one of our periodic General Meetings - see our HOME PAGE for updates on the latest meeting information.

Geographic Area:
The Southwest Cobb Team consists of the cities of Austell, Mableton, Powder Springs, and Clarkdale. However, anyone from any part of Cobb or in nearby areas (Douglas, Paulding) doing business in Cobb is welcome to attend.

Overview:
The Southwest Cobb Team consists of area churches, nonprofit organizations, community groups, and business representatives who come together to network and share information. In addition, the team participates in 1-2 service projects each year and also joins other teams in supporting county-wide Cobb Faith Partnership events and efforts. Our latest efforts to meet community needs have spawned two Special Interest Groups (SIGS): A Homeless Issues subgroup and a Housing Assistance subgroup.

Team Accomplishments

  • Recently resurrected the Homeless Issues subgroup to focus collaborative efforts on Homeless Issues in SW Cobb County. The group is currently developing a list of churches and groups willing to "shelter" homeless individuals during the coldest nights of the year.
  • Recently established a Housing Assistance subgroup to address issues faced by residents needing help with utilities, rent, and other bills as a result of circumstances beyond their control such as a job loss or reduction in household income. The group is working with SVCAMP and FLRC in identifying churches and groups providing financial assistance to the community and encouraging them to strengthen partnerships in this important area of need in SW Cobb County.
  • Participates in the Cobb County Homeless Point-In-Time Count by providing volunteers as well as supplying items for hygiene kits. In 2009, the group helped with supplying items for nearly 250 hygiene kits handed out during this year's count held on January 29, 2009.
  • An ongoing project: collecting items for known homeless groups to include socks, blankets, easy-open foodstuffs, toiletries, wipes, bottled water, backpacks, and other seasonal items on an as-needed basis. These items are then given out to homeless individuals as well as to groups needing items for their programs such as the Point in Time Count of the Homeless project.
  • Provides "Meet and Greet" segments during regularly scheduled team meetings designed to establish networking contacts and facilitate sharing of information and literature on "who does what" in SW Cobb.
  • Instrumental in pulling together area churches and organizations in establishing Cobb Disaster Recovery to help victims of Hurricane Dennis which flooded over 400 homes in Cobb County in 2005.
  • Encourages Collaboration and Connections in SW Cobb, such as the recent successful partnership of SVCAMP with Cobb Community Collaborative's Austell and Powder Springs Taskforces in their 2007 and 2008 Back-to-School community outreach efforts.
